one seeking closure while the other watches in his attempt to find his own.

While Jaemin admits it’s not Hendery’s brightest idea to be out seeing his ex for ‘closure’ - in whatever context that might have been - he still kinda regrets agreeing to this, because one way or another, he’ll be dragging the other man’s ass out of that restaurant half-drunk and still pining, with a wine bill exceeding this week’s grocery receipt.

But here he is, two tables and about twenty-eight floorboards away from where Hendery patiently fiddles with his phone, trying to keep his cool and waiting on a text that might never come as he would’ve hoped.

In an attempt to relieve the unbridled silence, Jaemin holds his phone out to text him: “It’s been 2 hours. They’re not coming. Let’s go.”

“No,” chides Hendery via text message, eyes immediately shooting at Jaemin’s direction, the former’s brows almost knitted together in despair. “they promised they’ll come.”

Yeah, and what else did they promise you? But Jaemin bites his tongue, rolling his eyes while sinking into the bolstered backrest of his seat.

The pendant lighting overhead glistens against the fork as he picks it up and there’s a tiny clink against the wine glass. The padded cushions aren’t softening him either; no one in his empty table around to share the untouched meal: Caesar salad with extra cilantro - just how he likes it - and the sparkling flavorless wine.

All bland, this evening included.

Another hour passes before Hendery finishes at least three bottles of Moscato d'Asti, waiting literally for anything to reappear right through the front door of this fancy restaurant - the same one which Jaemin learned against his will, where Hendery and his ex dined upon becoming official.

Jaemin just thinks it’s funny for a guy like Hendery to be absolutely sentimental over getting his closure; like, is Hendery thinking if they take them out here again, they’ll magically end up back together? That somehow they’ll end up at their apartment, thin walls separating his and Jaemin’s bedroom with the latter barely sleeping through the night against their muffled noises? Was it so hard for Hendery to just accept that it isn’t going anywhere anymore, and no one in their right mind will be travelling across the country just to be at the same place that once had been a gem of a memory? It’s not like people just get up and decide they want to get back together.

Stupid.

Jaemin flicks the stray hair across Hendery’s forehead, the other man leaning against his shoulder on the taxi drive home, eyes shut and tired, mouth still grumbling how much it hurts to be stood up and be rejected for the umpteenth time.

“I still love them.”

Cracking a small tired smile, Jaemin sighs and pats Hendery’s cheek, pulling him closer so he can plant a stale kiss against the side of his head. “I know.”

Heart on his sleeve, Jaemin knows it a little too well.
